  • What is Encephalitis?

    Encephalitis is an inflammation of the brain. The inflammation is caused either by an infection invading the brain (Infectious Encephalitis) or through the immune system attacking the brain in error (Post-infectious or Autoimmune Encephalitis).

  • The Encephalitis Society – Who are we?

    The Encephalitis Society was founded in 1994 and is the only resource of its kind in the world providing direct support and information to individuals and families affected by encephalitis. www.encephalitis.info

  • What is World Encephalitis Day?

    World Encephalitis Day on February 22 is the global awareness day for people who have been directly or indirectly affected by encephalitis. It was founded by The Encephalitis Society in 2014 and has subsequently reached tens of millions of people.

  • Who can get Encephalitis?

    Anyone at any age can get Encephalitis.  There are around 500,000 cases globally each year.
